Adware, Spyware And Malware
Adware, Spyware And Malware - What Are The Differences?
We all dislike those frustrating problems that we come across on a regular basis while browsing
the internet and downloading software. Sometimes it's hard to know what the problem is exactly, so having an
understanding of the different computer bugs and viruses may help you solve or prevent any future problems. Adware,
spyware and malware can cause different types of issues, so recognizing each of these pesky little bugs will be
very helpful.
You may be having underlying problems, for example your computer is running really slow or you
can't use certain software. After checking this out you will probably find it's due to adware, spyware or malware.
And you don't necessarily need to be a computer whizz to do this, as just having a basic knowledge should do the
trick. There is also a range of software tools out there to help with these so you don't need to feel helpless
doing it all alone.
Adware
Adware is probably the most common and easiest to handle when it comes to computer bugs. Adware
is basically the annoying advertisement pop-ups you get on certain websites. An example of pop-ups is when you are
on one website and automatically another opens and pops up on your screen. Some adware produces multiple pop-ups,
which can be really frustrating to get rid of.
Setting your internet option to block pop-ups is the easiest solution to this. You have the
option to turn this on and off, so if you do want to allow certain pop-ups you can do so. Also having some anti
spyware software will help detect any adware that may cause you any problems. Although adware is fairly safe it can
sometimes be hiding something a bit nastier like spyware or virus. Beware of the websites you visit, as some
unauthorized websites are more likely to have adware with hidden problems.
Spyware
Spyware, as the name states, is a type of malicious software that spies on your computer
activity. It is used to collect data on what you have been doing online, what websites you have visited, how much
you have been typing, and other information you have. Spyware can go further than watching what you are doing; it
can also change your computer settings and affect applications. It can even affect you internet connection, turning
this off or weakening it.
In many cases spyware lies undetected on the computer, and most computer users at some point
will be affected by spyware and won't even know it. Running anti spyware software will detect this for you easily
and quickly.
Malware
Malware comes in many different forms. Though spyware is classified as a type of malware, there
are even more dangerous types of malware including worms, viruses and trojans. Trojans can be one of the most
volatile of malware and are commonly used by hackers to hack into computer systems and information.
Trojans are often disguised as repair software; so when you download something that appears to
be going to help you, it will in actual fact do the opposite and hack into your data, causing harm or sometimes
destruction to applications.
Viruses are a different type of malware; they keep on replicating themselves and pass on the
destruction from computer to computer. They often come in the form of attachments on emails, such that when you
open the attachment it can hack into your system and then into your email contacts and pass on the virus. There are
different types of malware protection to work against each or all types of malware.
